10 Weeks Along and Going Strong!!

Today I am 10 weeks pregnant. WOW! Hard to believe I am a 1/4 of the way through this pregnancy. The last couple of weeks have been pretty much the same. The nausea has kicked in full force. Still not actually throwing up, so I am extremely thankful for that. I have been pretty tired and my belly is feeling more bloated now. Today I actually worn my first pair of maternity jeans...is that bad? Who cares...they are so much more comfortable. We had our meeting at the clinic with the staff nurse to talk about medical history and get a starting point for vitals, blood work, and some other stuff. What was most exciting was we got to see our little baby on our very first sonogram!! Oh my goodness were we just thrilled to see our little baby in there moving and shaking already. It really was an amazing sight to see the baby wiggling around, it even kicked its little foot at us. We heard the heart beating which was also a touching sight and sound. I really thought I would cry the first time I experienced the sight of our baby, but I was just so excited and I could not stop smiling. The sonogram tech told us that everything looked great. She said that the size and shape of the uterus was just as it should be and the baby was in a good position high up in the uterus. It was a good feeling to hear the positive words and this experience has really made us feel like this is really happening. We are getting more excited every week. Just 3 more weeks of school for me and yes...I am counting the days/weeks. This week I present my formal reading lesson and I am excited and really nervous all at the same time. Next week is my PE/Health lesson and I am nervous about that too. The end is in sight for this semester of school. Can't wait!! We celebrated Jeremy's 30th birthday at the KC Royals game with good friends and family and we could not have asked for a more perfect day. God continues to bless us and we continue to thank him everyday for his bountiful blessings in our lives. This journey is really just beginning and we are just holding on and enjoying every minute of it. The baby is really changing, growing, and developing. Here is what's going on!

The baby is barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, the baby has now completed the most critical portion of its development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in baby's body rapidly grow and mature.

The baby is swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including its kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout the pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside the womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Baby's limbs can bend now. The baby's hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over its heart, and the feet may be long enough to meet in front of the body. The outline of baby's spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from its spinal cord. Baby's forehead temporarily bulges with its developing brain and sits very high on its head, which measures half the length of its body. From crown to rump, baby is about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Look for an update in a couple of weeks!!

  1. I love the blog!!! It is a great way to keep a journal about what is going on during your pregnancy. I have been so bad at keeping up with our blog but maybe you can inspire me. My sister is SO good at updating hers and it is great to see what is going on when you don't get to see each other very often. I will look forward to many more posts!!
